Human Reviews
LOW MODERATE HIGHRequirements NIST SOURCE
Enforce the use of human reviews for [information flows] under the following conditions: [conditions].
Discussion (NIST Supplemental Guidance)
Organizations define security or privacy policy filters for all situations where automated flow control decisions are possible. When a fully automated flow control decision is not possible, then a human review may be employed in lieu of or as a complement to automated security or privacy policy filtering. Human reviews may also be employed as deemed necessary by organizations.
Implementation Guidance

No engineering interpretation has been authored for AC-4(9) yet. This section is architected to receive it — see the Requirements and Assessment sections above for the authoritative NIST source content in the meantime.
Assessment
Assessment Objectives
- information flows requiring the use of human reviews are defined;
- conditions under which the use of human reviews for information flows are to be enforced are defined;
- human reviews are used for <AC-04(09)_ODP[01] information flows> under <AC-04(09)_ODP[02] conditions>.

STIGs & CCIs
No STIG checks or CCI mappings are currently loaded for AC-4(9). This section is architected to display, per product: STIG ID, Finding ID, Severity, Title, Description, Check, Fix, CCI, and NIST control mapping — but nothing is populated here until a real DISA STIG/CCI dataset is ingested.
